What is the Menopause ?
The menopause is a normal stage in life and signals the end of our fertile years. It happens when our ovaries start producing less and less of the hormone oestrogen. As a result, the ovaries fail to release an egg every month and we start experiencing menopause symptoms. It is not unusual to experience these symptoms for several years before your periods finally stop.
The average age for the onset of the menopause is 51 but it can happen anytime from your 30’s to your 60’s. If you go into the menopause before you reach 40 years of age, this is known as “Premature Menopause”. “Early Menopause” is when you go into menopause between the ages of 40 and 45.
